Guiding Principles

Healthcare organizations include highly trained professionals, people who work in caregiver roles, and service providers who operate in high-stress and trauma-impacted environments.   • Our workshops, leadership groups, and educational support are all designed to give you the experience of the culture you wish to create. We will share factual information with you that is important to learn, but our focus is on creating an experience of trust, support, and calm that allows you to form new connections and new ideas. We give you the best soil, but you are always the gardener.

  • The practice of metacognition, thinking about thinking or thinking about feeling, is a skill to develop. The more adept we are at being aware of our own thoughts, feelings, and experiences, the more likely we are to choose consciously rather than simply repeat past actions. We become a source of trust and wisdom for others by increasing our own awareness of influencing factors. Metacognition is enhanced by giving attention to both intellectual and felt responses. We teach you strategies and practices for enhancing your ability to move between small details and the bigger picture. From this perspective, you see more options and confidently pinpoint your best points of intervention in a task, project, or process. 

  • When you learn to focus metacognitively before taking action, you have more opportunities to change outcomes and behavior–for yourself, your colleagues, and patients. Being healthy is about more than just things like good cholesterol, the right medicine, and frequent exercise. People make decisions that influence their health based on social norms, historical legacies, and cultural factors, seen and unseen. We teach you to relate to people and research in a way that acknowledges the emotions, thoughts, history, and beliefs behind behavior. A metacognitive and holistic approach improves patient outcomes and provider resilience and satisfaction.

Services

Strategic Visioning and Planning

Our method infuses stability, confidence, and calm in an organization by working strategically with a network of leaders. We make decisions about which leaders to work with, how well we are doing, and what needs attention and adjustment based on the insights of internal visionary leaders. This service includes either weekly or biweekly meetings and regular communication. Our goal is to support the organization's highest vision with consistent feedback and collaboration.

Small Leadership Cohorts

We create virtual cohorts of 7-10 leaders as the foundation of your stable network of leaders. These cohorts each have a theme based on your goals. Leaders apply to the groups based on interest, which gives participants the chance to articulate what they want to learn and why. The groups meet for 90-minute sessions once a week for six weeks. They are small by design so that every participant can share, ask questions, and get personal feedback. Each session includes diagrams, visuals, and fictionalized case study stories.

Lunch and Learns

These are 90-minute educational events that occur one to two times monthly. The events give employees a chance to gather and enjoy food together while learning about a particular topic. The sessions give 20-30 minutes of factual information with breakout groups for discussion. These are designed to share self-reflective, stability-enhancing practices with a wider audience. People can choose which topics speak to their particular challenges at any time.

Professional Assessment

We partner with expert assessment specialists. They apply rigorous and innovative social science methodologies to provide researched-based recommendations that support our programs. This information guides our efforts and helps us determine next steps. It also serves as a summary for internal leaders to use as they share information about these interventions more widely and decide next steps after our program has come to a close.

Advanced Leadership Programs

This is an in-depth four-month program for a select number of leaders in your organization. They receive support in the form of mentorship, classes, in-person retreats, and more. We develop this option strategically in collaboration with your plans and vision.

1:1 Guidance

We work systemically, knowing that positive interaction with individuals creates beneficial ripple effects that support the organization at large. This is why we include the option of strategically identifying individual leaders who would benefit from 1:1s. This gives community members the option to flesh out issues and brainstorm solutions to their particular challenges.
